This class is a brief introduction to snow safety, and will help you to travel and evaluating avalanche terrain in the West Central Mountains. You will learn the basics of playing in avalanche terrain. Participants will be introduced to the basics in avalanche education including how to use your safety gear, an intro to snow science and safe travel in avalanche terrain.
Cost: $10.00 Donation to the Friends of Payette Avalanche Center. Class will be limited to 30 folks.
Tenative Class Schedule
9:00-9:30 Introductions and coffee in Upper Lot Bar
9:30-11:00 Classroom Session
12:00-4:00 Load lifts after lunch for field session. During the field session we will practice the basics of snow analysis, how to travel safely in avalanche terrain and how to find your friends if things do go wrong! We hope to travel into backcountry terrain in the Sargents area.
Day will end around 4:00, when we'll head up to the Upper Lot for a beverage and a recap of the day!
What to bring: Bring a sack lunch, snacks and water, beacon, shovel, gear to outside. Skins and/or split board gear will be required for travel during the field session to the Sargents area. For questions and to register please email firstname.lastname@example.org
